Fall is my favorite time of the year for hiking through McConnells Mills.

McConnells Mill State Park. Sun shining through the yellow leaves creates a yellowish light that shines down from above, beautiful. Taken at the top of a hill off of the Slippery Rock Gorge trail about 1 mile down the Slippery Rock Gorge Trail (from the Hell's Hollow parking lot). Hell's run, just above the Hell's Hollow Falls in McConnell's Mill State Park. Photo taken with an iPhone 4s, November 2012

Hell's Hollow Falls (yeah, that's me). On this trip to the falls we hiked up the hill behind me (and about 50-100 ft to the right of the falls) and hooked up with the the Slippery Rock Gorge Trail (challenging, grabbed roots and small trees to get a handhold, not recommended for those not up for it). For another challenge you could follow Hell's Run Creek from here all the way down to where it ends and joins Slippery Rock Creek (and a short trip up the hill to hook back up with the Slippery Rock Gorge Trail). A hike down and along the creek is even more challenging perhaps, lots of jumping across rocks and likely falling in the water, they don't call it "slippery rock" for nothing), did that once. Can also be dangerous. You have been forewarned. Oct 2011 [Nikon D40X, 18-200 VR]
